If necessary, additional accessibility information is available in metadata

Accessibility metadata allows users to assess whether a digital book meets their specific needs before purchasing it. In specific circumstances, accessibility metadata may not completely reflect your efforts or potential limitations. In this case, a specific field allows you to directly write a short text describing what is not represented by other metadata.

Objectives

  • Improve accessibility of content to readers with disabilities.
  • Allow distribution platforms to better report the accessibility characteristics of works.

Implementation

  • Write the content of the accessibilitySummary element for the OPF file.
  • Write the content of the ONIX code 196-92 Addendum on accessibility.

Control

  • Verify the presence and relevance of an accessibility summary in the digital book’s OPF file.
  • Verify the presence and relevance of a pertinent Accessibility Addendum in the ONIX record (code 196-92).
  • Verify that accessibility information is correctly displayed on online bookstore product pages.

Validation

  • Reported by Ace by DAISY.
  • Needs to be verified by a human.
